This book is a beautiful exploration of an alternative to the way we now live as a society. It doesn't give a real world practical solution but it has motivated me to change the way I live.
Followers of Ishmael will understand the importance of sharing this knowledge so eloquently put forth by Daniel Quinn. This is the 15th copy of Ishmael that I have purchased, read, and then given away. This is a must read and should be taught not only at the college level (which it is) but should be required reading for High School students.
It is a must read. Who doesn't want to read a book about a gorilla. This book gives a new perspective on the culture that we live in. Even if that sort of thing isn't of interest to you it has a gorilla in it.
Perfect compliment to Janine Benyus' Biomimicry which is another book I'd highly recommend. Anderson's Mid-Course Correction. Loved this book. Found it through Ray C. I hope it's required reading in all high-school and college "green" courses.
Still, points surprised me. As a sustainability professional, I agree with and could predict much of the discussion. I wonder if I even should have expected more, though. Keeps you on your toes. Intriguing way to explain the foundation of man's destructive nature. Also, I expected more from the main (human) character seeing that he admits that he "wanted to find a teacher".
